Clos Lunelles 2010
Decant gently; serve 55-58 F; drink 2023 - 2030; 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon - aged 18 months in 50% new French Oak; Clos Lunelles was purchased by Gerard Perse, owner of the highly esteemed Chateau Pavie in nearby St-Emilion. The estate is located in Cotes de Castillon, one of the several sub-regions along Bordeaux's "Right Bank" offering incredible value wines, though sometimes simple. However, this is not the case with Clos Lunelles. Perse's team treats their vineyards and the wine in a similar manner as Pavie with high extraction and judicious use of oak. The wine is considered the pinnacle of the Cotes de Bordeaux appellations. These bottles were aged at the estate until last year, so they are already quite mature; however, you can expect to continue to enjoy this wine for up to another 10 years.

Established in 1911 by Johann Josef Prum, though the Prum family had been established around the village of Wehlen since 1156. Today, the estate is managed by Dr. Katherine Prum, Johan’s great-granddaughter. The Sonnenuhr vineyard is marked by a large sundial at the base of very steep slopes. The vines are planted ungrafted in Devonion slate soils and worked entirely by hand. The wine style at J.J. Prüm is “reductive,” that is, marked by a distinct smokiness in its youth. However, this style lends towards great longevity. Keep this bottle from 2028-2041, or decant aggressively if consumed soon.
